The LNP is calling on Townsville’s three Labor MPs to come out of hiding and publicly back the Carmichael coal project.
LNP Deputy Leader Tim Mander said Aaron Harper, Coralee O’Rourke and Scott Stewart were putting their own political careers before the needs of working people across North Queensland.
“These Labor MPs were elected to represent the people of Townsville – not environmental activists in Brisbane,” Mr Mander said.
“They should be fighting for jobs in North Queensland instead of lying low and protecting their own careers.
“Townsville’s Labor MPs are just Annastacia Palaszczuk’s puppets.”
Townsville’s unemployment rate of 8 per cent is one of the highest in Queensland. Around 9,300 people are currently looking for work in the city.
Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper, Member for Mundingburra Coralee O’Rourke and Member for Townsville Scott Stewart have so far refused to sign a public pledge of support for the Carmichael project.
LNP Member for Burdekin and Shadow Resources Minister Dale Last said Labor was selling out Queensland workers to pick up Green preferences in Brisbane electorates.
“These MPs backed Carmichael coal jobs before the last election, but they’ve done nothing but sit on their hands since then,” Mr Last said.
“Townsville’s tricky trio of Labor MPs can’t be trusted.
“They take their orders from Annastacia Palaszczuk and ignore the needs of the communities they are supposed to represent.”
