Liberal National Party Leader Deb Frecklington has welcomed the Morrison Government’s decision to call a royal commission into aged care.
“Seniors in aged care deserve to be safe and secure and receive the best possible care,” Ms Frecklington said.
“It has become increasingly clear many seniors are vulnerable to abuse and neglect.
“Elder abuse has no place in our communities and I am in full support of the royal commission and action to support Queensland’s seniors.”
LNP Shadow Minister for Seniors Dr Christian Rowan said reports of elder abuse have sadly been rife across Australia and Queensland for some time.
“I look forward to the terms of reference being released and seeing how Queensland can play its part,” Dr Rowan said.
“The findings of the royal commission may come as a shock, but it’s encouraging to see real action to support seniors.
“Senior Queenslanders deserve to be treated with respect and any form of elder abuse is unacceptable.”
