LNP Leader Deb Frecklington says the alarming statistics into regional maternity services shows just how health is of little priority to Annastacia Palaszczuk.
“To see the statistics where the death rate of babies in towns with no birthing services is almost four times higher, breaks my heart,” Ms Frecklington said.
“As someone who was born in a regional hospital, I understand how important these services are to rural and regional families.
“Annastacia Palaszczuk and Steven Miles have known about these issues for months and have done nothing.
“In fact, Labor’s priority seems to be changing the names of hospitals, rather than improving the services they provide.
“A local family raised issues about Chinchilla Hospital being on maternity bypass in April* and we even raised the issue in Parliament on May 1**, where the Health Minister played politics.
“In estimates hearings just two weeks ago, the issue was again raised and the Minister’s chief bureaucrat didn’t even seem to understand the question***.
“What will it take for something to be done about this?
“The LNP will continue to fight to ensure these vital regional health services are restored.”
- The LNP actually restored regional maternity services in places like Beaudesert, Weipa and Cooktown, following the savage cuts from the Beattie and Bligh Labor Government.
- Our commitment to rural women also resulted in funding to increase by 40% the flying hours of the Flying Obstetrics and Gynaecology service.
- We decentralised the health system to provide better local decision making.
- And we doubled the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme to help parents travel to specialist hospital services.
