Palaszczuk has no plan to end watch-house fail

Youth justice amendments introduced into Parliament will not end the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s police watch-house fail that has allowed kids to be locked up for weeks on end.

LNP Shadow Attorney-General David Janetzki said Labor have no plan to end the youth justice crisis they’ve created.

“Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk was asked in Parliament today to name the date of when she will fix Labor’s human rights crisis and get kids out of adult watch-houses,” Mr Janetzki said.

“The Premier failed to give a timeline.

“Labor also blocked our attempt to introduce urgent amendments that would have established a 72-hour time limit for kids to be held in watch-houses.

“Right now kids are being held for 40 days under Labor. That is barbaric.

“Juveniles must be held accountable for their crimes, but they belong in dedicated facilities instead of police watch-houses.

“Labor has no plan and no timeline to get kids out of police watch houses, its clearly not a priority.”
