Local Family

I love the Gold Coast, I grew up in Southport and raised my four sons here. As a family we love our local way of life; the beach, the surf, the footy and our magnificent Broadwater. As a kid I attended Southport State School and later was a foundation student at Keebra Park State High School. My first full-time job was at the original Sundale Woolies, I then spent the first ten years of my working life travelling all over Queensland as a Woolies manager. Today I am an accomplished executive with local and international experiences in small business and the corporate world. I have been a broadcaster, store manager, retailer, wholesaler, barista and pizza maker.

An Active Community Member

Prior to entering politics I was General Manager of Sea FM Limited, operating local radio stations 90.9 Sea Fm & 92.5 Gold FM. Outside of work I’ve had an extensive range of not-for-profit board experience. I was a founding director of the Gold Coast NRL Titans and a board member of Runaway Junior Leagues Club. I was the founding Chairman of the Gold Coast Community Fund and am today one of the longest serving directors of Bravehearts the charity committed to protecting our kids from Child Sexual Abuse. I’m an ambassador and fundraiser for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, which raises money to help provide accommodation and services to the homeless. I’m also a strong advocate and champion of Southport based Domestic Violence support services.

Delivering Results

I’ve worked hard to deliver so many important local and community projects. With the excellent improvements to the Broadwater Parklands, Gold Coast Aquatic Centre and the revitalisation of the Southport CBD we’ve achieved a lot together. Since my election in 2012 I’ve also worked hard to deliver vital road upgrades to Smith St, Olsen Ave, Ferry Rd, High St, Ross St and Bundall Rd along with improvements to public transport including the light rail and improved car-parking in Southport and at the Parkwood Light Rail station.

Working Together

As the State Member for Southport my enduring goals include extension of the light and heavy rail networks from Helensvale to the Airport, more public and affordable housing, revitalisation of CBD Southport, better health services, a fairer go for young people, more jobs, and standing up for families. I will continue to fight for better protection of frontline emergency service workers, less domestic and family violence and work to ensure the Gold Coast is among the most welcoming and safest cities in the world.
