I live in the northern part of the Burdekin Electorate at Alligator Creek with my partner Kim and children, Jack (aged 7) and Molly (aged 6) along with a menagerie of animals.
I have lived and worked in rural and remote communities for most of my life and I’m immensely proud to be representing an electorate as diverse as the Burdekin with its agriculture, horticulture and resource industries.
I’m also passionate about retaining families in our rural and regional communities and the benefits that come from raising our children in these localities.
An Active Community Member
As the Member for Burdekin I enjoy working with the myriad of community organisations and groups that are an integral part of our communities, whether it be our Neighbourhood Centres, Chambers of Commerce, Men’s Sheds, Nashos, QCWA, Service Clubs or Sporting Groups.
The annual festivals, parades and community events provide a great avenue for the community to come together and I’m proud to be a part of it.
The Haughton River Bridge upgrade, multi-purpose undercover area at Home Hill State High School, Sandy Gully upgrade at Bowen, and feasibility studies for both Urannah Dam as well as the Bowen Food Processing Plant, are just some of the significant projects I have delivered for this area.
I have also worked successfully to improve health, police and education services throughout the electorate. On my regular visits to all the schools, I have donated Bucket Books, (books that target bullying through promoting self-esteem and becoming a caring and responsible person), to every primary and high school within my electorate.
The Burdekin electorate has now become the most diverse electorate in Qld. With the inclusion of Glenden, Nebo, Moranbah, Dysart, Middlemount and Clermont and all points in between I foresee us becoming the economic powerhouse of the State!
I have been working with our local governments and Federal Members to kick-start a number of job creating projects across the electorate and I look forward to establishing partnerships with community groups in the new areas of the electorate to deliver the outcomes our residents expect.
