New report reveals Palaszczuk’s lowest priority is Sunshine Coast commuters

Revelations from a new industry report released today* has uncovered the Sunshine Coast will only receive $1.4 billion in major project work in comparison to Brisbane’s $6.7 billion. The new industry report has revealed major projects like the Sunshine Coast Rail Duplication clearly aren’t a priority for Labor.

This comes on the back of scathing comments from public transport advocate Jeff Addison who questioned why other rail projects such as Springfield were fully-funded by the state government while the Sunshine Coast continued to miss out.

After ‘governing’ from the Sunshine Coast for almost all of this week Annastacia Palaszczuk hasn’t mentioned the project at all.

Shadow Infrastructure Minister and LNP Member for Glass House Andrew Powell said duplicating the region’s rail line would allow an extra 150 services a week, improve reliability and relieve congestion on the Bruce Highway.

“Labor needs to stop short changing Sunshine Coast commuters and stump up the missing $230 million that the LNP has already committed to,” Mr Powell said.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk promised this project ten years ago when she was the Transport Minister in the Bligh Government.

“Ten years on and Annastacia Palaszczuk is still giving the same empty and hollow promises she was making last decade.

“Labor’s commitment to this project is about one per cent of the total cost of Cross River Rail – which is being fully funded by the state government.

“The Palaszczuk Labor Government are shamefully treating Sunshine Coast residents as second-class commuters.

“Labor will only fund 20 per cent of new rail infrastructure in this region but is footing the entire cost of Cross River Rail in Brisbane.

“The Sunshine Coast will never get a fair deal from Labor. Only a Deb Frecklington LNP Government will invest in the infrastructure we desperately need.”
