Liberal National Party Leader Deb Frecklington today welcomed reports that the Turnbull Coalition Government has listened and given Queensland a GST guarantee.
“I have been directly talking to the Prime Minister for months who understood that Queensland deserved a GST guarantee,” Ms Frecklington said.
“Reports that under the new GST arrangement, Queensland will now receive more than $500 million in top up payments is a win for our state and welcome news.
“This unexpected bonus money should be spent air conditioning all state school classrooms, committing to a second M1 and providing retail competition in regional electricity market.”
LNP Shadow Treasurer Tim Mander said the decision means Labor will now have to govern instead of constantly attacking Canberra and doing Bill Shorten’s bidding.
“This puts to bed Annastacia Palaszczuk and Jackie Trad’s unhinged scare campaign over the past six months about the GST carve-up,” Mr Mander said.
“It is time now for the Palaszczuk government and other state governments to agree to these changes.
“The only risk to this extra $500 million windfall for Queensland is Annastacia Palaszczuk and Bill Shorten.”
