Labor waste tax remains in fast lane

Annastacia Palaszczuk’s refusal to shelve the early introduction of a statewide waste tax is evidence Labor’s levy is just a blatant money grab.

Liberal National Party (LNP) Leader Deb Frecklington used a question without notice in Parliament today to ask the Premier whether she would reverse her decision to fast track Labor’s waste tax.

“The Palaszczuk Government said fast tracking the waste tax was the ‘only way’ to fix the issues with Ipswich’s recycling,” Ms Frecklington said.

“The Labor Ipswich City Council was shamed into providing recycling services to ratepayers again and stopped recycling material going to landfill – all without a waste tax.

“Despite recycling in Ipswich returning to business as normal, Annastacia Palaszczuk is refusing to scrap her opportunistic plan to fast forward a waste tax on all Queenslanders.

“Blaming Ipswich was a shameful smokescreen to bring forward a waste tax that would hit every Queenslander’s hip-pocket and smash businesses in construction, manufacturing, tourism and hospitality.

“The only thing Labor recycles is excuses. The only vision Labor has for Queensland is more taxes.”
