The LNP is calling on Labor to release the secret Independent Public School (IPS) review today, after the Minister told media she received a briefing yesterday.
LNP Shadow Education Minister Jarrod Bleijie said IPS give local principals, teachers and parents more control in how to run their schools.
“Sadly under Labor, IPS are destined for the scrapheap under Labor,” Mr Bleijie said.
“Under the former LNP Government, 250 IPS have commenced across Queensland, but the program has stalled under Labor.
“We recognise that a one-size fits all approach to education simply does not work and research shows that more autonomy improves school performance and student outcomes.
“Queensland’s largest public school – Brisbane State High School is an IPS and the model works very well for them.
“The LNP wants Queensland kids to be the smartest in the nation, which is why this program should be extended and enhanced.”
Queenslanders deserve to know what is in Labor’s second IPS review and not on a Friday afternoon as is often the case with this Labor Government and their culture of cover-up and secrecy.
“The Teachers Union want this program scrapped because schools are run by local parents, teachers and principals and not central head office in Brisbane,” Mr Bleijie said.
“The LNP revealed in estimates hearings last week that just weeks after the QTU wrote to the Minister, a secret review was commissioned.
“The public consultation on this review has been appalling and Labor’s agenda is quite clear.”
