Liberal National Party Leader Deb Frecklington today said it has been a horror start to Labor’s second term in government with a series of cover ups being exposed.
“A decent government should be open and accountable and sadly Labor have been found wanting time and time again,” Ms Frecklington said.
“This is quite simply a Labor government addicted to secrecy.
“First of all, Labor are refusing to release ministerial emails showing its negotiations with the Rail Tram and Bus Union during the height of Labor’s rail fail which has thrown South East Queensland’s public transport system into ongoing chaos.
“Queenslanders definitely have a right to know what involvement Labor Ministers had with the union to cause this mess in the first place.
“But this is just the tip of the cover-up iceberg for lazy Labor with further revelations in the media today around the stench that is senior Palaszczuk Minister Mark Bailey’s notorious Mangocube account.”
Ms Frecklington said more than 180 pages of secret correspondence have now been identified from a powerful union lobbying this senior Labor Minister through unofficial back channels.
“This doesn’t even go close to passing the pub test. Private email use to conduct government business with the unions is just not on. The CCC Chair even called him very foolish,” she said.
“All this on top of the 215 reviews conducted by Labor and even when they release a review they cover it up.
“Who could forget the ridiculous situation where a report into youth detention centre abuse had hundreds of pages redacted and then we needed another review to release more information to the public after the first review.”
Ms Frecklington said the covers ups don’t stop there with other secret reports including the review into the tragic deaths of toddler Mason Lee and the cover up of Labor’s secret royalty deal with Adani.
“How much other information is this government hiding from Queenslanders? Secret deals, cover-ups, hidden reports and scandals have become the hallmarks of Annastacia Palaszczuk’s time as Premier,” she said.
“Labor needs to stop the lies and cover ups, end the veil of secrecy and release all these documents to Queenslanders.”
