Labor fails Queensland livestock producers and meatworks

Today’s Parliamentary Estimates hearings have exposed Labor’s Manufacturing Minister Cameron Dick as all show and no substance on promises to deliver a “strategy” for Queensland’s critical meat processing sector.

“The Palaszczuk Labor Government made an election commitment last year to implement a comprehensive strategy for the Queensland meatworks industry,” LNP Shadow State Development Minister Andrew Powell said.

“It’s been over eight months since the election and we’re yet to see a strategy, let alone the implementation of it.

“Since that time Queensland’s meat manufacturing industry has lost 900 jobs in South East Queensland alone.**

“How many more jobs from Queensland’s largest manufacturing industry need to be lost until this do-nothing Palaszczuk Labor Government delivers on its promises?

“Queensland Labor has driven power and water prices to record highs and pushed through damaging vegetation management laws that will hurt Queensland livestock producers.

“Minister Dick needs to stand up to his factional opponent Treasurer Jackie Trad and stop her rampage against Queensland’s meat industry to gain green votes in her electorate.”
