CCC finds Labor has lost control of prisons

Today’s damning report by the Crime and Corruption Commission has confirmed that the Palaszczuk Labor Government has totally lost control of Queensland’s prisons.

The Taskforce Flaxton report found that violence and corruption is now endemic in Queensland’s correctional system.

“Once again, Labor is turning a blind eye to corruption in Queensland,” Ms Frecklington said.

“Our prisons are bursting at the seams and our prison officers are being treated as punch bags by inmates.

“Labor’s solution is more ‘doubling up’ in cells – but this is only exacerbating the violence and corruption.

“Prison staff are doing a damn hard job but they are being let down by this Government, with assaults on staff at record highs.

“We need to restore order in our prisons and deliver effective rehabilitation, because right now some offenders are coming out of prison more violent than when they went in.”

Shadow Police and Corrective Services Minister Trevor Watts said Labor’s Mark Ryan had lost control of crime and prisons.

“Minister Mark Ryan needs to take full responsibility for this scandalous situation,” Mr Watts said.

“Queensland’s embattled Police and Corrective Services Minister is failing to protect the community and failing to protect prison staff.

“A Deb Frecklington LNP Government will deliver the rehabilitation services and resources our prisons need to cut re-offending and keep the community safe.”
