Reports that Labor’s Cross River rail project will require 50 additional trains to be ordered immediately is further evidence of Labor’s shambolic management of QR, LNP Deputy Leader and Shadow Treasurer Tim Mander said today.
“It looks like we will have a new rail service with no drivers and no trains either,” Mr Mander said.
“Mark Bailey could be Labor’s most incompetent Transport Minister ever – and that’s some achievement.
“This proves what the LNP has been saying all along. The final bill for Cross River Rail will be billions more than the Palaszczuk Government has ever admitted.
“The tunnel alone will cost $5.4 billion, but the auxiliary project costs will be another $4.5 billion and the operational costs another $4.5 billion.
“The total cost will be more than $14 billion and that’s assuming Labor deliver it on budget.
“Annastacia Palaszczuk tells Queenslanders the bill is $5.4 billion. She’s $9 billion wide of the mark and taxpayers will pick up the difference.
“The Palaszczuk Government has been a disaster for rail passengers.
“QR has cut 470 services, needs 200 more drivers and is now facing a massive bill for Cross River Rail.”
