Tony Family

Local Family

I have been lucky enough to live in the Gympie region for the past 20 years. I grew up in Kingaroy and my wife Michele and I moved here to raise our family after purchasing a cattle grazing property.

I have been privileged to represent this region as a Kilkivan Shire Councillor, a Gympie Regional Councillor and Deputy Mayor, and since 2015 as the State Member for Gympie.

Working for the Gympie Region

I have proudly represented the people of the Gympie electorate since 2015. Living and working in this region I strongly believe that there are great opportunities in our region but we need a government that will get things done.

We all deserve access to quality health and educational services and I will continue to work for our region to fix the roads, support common sense policies that help local businesses, families and retirees and put a stop to political correctness.

Delivering Results

Together, we have delivered a new CT scanner at the Gympie Hospital, the Gympie Hospital Master Plan, the Rainbow Beach Ambulance Station, and funding for the Bruce Highway and Wide Bay intersections upgrade at Bell’s Bridge.

Securing a decision from the Government to allow the University of the Sunshine Coast to lease an empty an unused TAFE building is proving more difficult. I will continue to push for this simple decision which will give our local students a fair go.

Working Together

Recent changes to Queensland’s state electorate boundaries are now complete. The changes mean that the electorate has extended north to Bauple and loses Pomona, Cooran, Federal and Cooroy to the south. It has extended west to gain the Widgee, Lower Wonga, Bells Bridge and Sexton localities. A strong campaign from the Cooloola Coast region means that Rainbow Beach will remain in the electorate.

My work does not stop at an arbitrary boundary set by a redistribution commission in Brisbane and my role is to represent the needs of our community.
