Palaszczuk thumbs nose at CCC boss over secret emails
The day after the chair of Queensland’s corruption watchdog Alan MacSporran said that all secret emails from unions to Palaszczuk Government Minister Mark Bailey should be released, Annastacia Palaszczuk has arrogantly refused to do so.
LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said Labor’s ongoing refusal to release documents made a mockery of the Premier’s commitment to be open and transparent with Queenslanders.
“This week it was revealed that the Premier herself and the Speaker of Parliament may be implicated in Labor’s grubby back channel correspondence with unions,” Ms Frecklington said.
“Even the Chairman of the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) agrees it’s now time for all of Mark Bailey’s private emails to be released, yet Annastacia Palaszczuk continues to thumb her nose at him and all Queenslanders.”
Journalist: “Should the government release all those emails and people should judge for themselves?”
Alan MacSporran: “I think so, frankly… and I’ll say again, any attempt to not release those emails simply creates a further level of suspicion that they contain something that the public are being deprived of seeing.”
“The Premier’s been in hiding now for the last two days, will she finally front the media and come clean about this email saga which she has now been personally been dragged into,” Ms Frecklington said.
“Labor resisted moves in Parliament on Wednesday from the LNP and voted to continue to cover up this sordid affair, will the Premier now listen to the independent corruption watchdog and do the right thing.
“If Annastacia Palaszczuk refuses to show leadership and sack Mark Bailey from Cabinet then she needs to release these emails immediately.
“Anything else will be the continuation of a cover up that has dragged on for over a year and continues to be investigated by the CCC.
“Annastacia Palaszczuk claims to be open and accountable, yet her actions are anything but.”
